French Provençal Vitrine, Carved Fruitwood Display Cabinet with Light, Louis XV Style

A tall French Provençal vitrine in carved fruitwood, Louis XV style, mid-20th century.

The warm, mahogany-toned wood glows against a white wall, and the serpentine top and cabriole legs give it a lovely rhythm. A carved shell and acanthus leaves run across the apron, a leaf crest crowns the glazed door, and the legs end in carved scroll feet.

Glass on the door and both sides lets the light pour through, so whatever you place inside is seen from every angle. Glass shelves sit over a wooden floor, and the interior light works: porcelain, crystal or a boho collection of found treasures glows after dark. A rococo brass escutcheon, the ring key and a turned brass rod complete it. Lock and key work.

Very good vintage condition. The top is clean; the finish and carving show only light wear from age.
